Caricatures for the County Clothesline Foundation & Store

I was honoured to be asked to draw at the celebration of 30 Years of Giving to the County Clothes-Line Foundation. There were 3 talented, young pianists entertaining the crowd, coffee and a great spread (sandwiches, fruit, etc.), myself doing caricatures, speeches and donations given to good causes from the Clothes-Line Foundation. Here is one of my favourites from the evening …

Some information about the County Clothes-Line Foundation and County Clothes-Line Store: The County Clothes-Line store accepts donations of gently-used clothing, toys, games, books and small household items. All merchandise is cleaned, then sold to the public at reasonable prices. (Clients referred from local agencies are allowed to shop free in times of an emergency.)

Unlike some used merchandise stores, the profit from the sale of goods from County Clothes-Line store goes back into the community through the County Clothes-Line Foundation! As these two entities work hand-in-hand, the generosity of the people in the community continues to enrich the lives of the residents of Strathcona County. The County Clothes-Line Foundation, working through the County Clothes-Line store, is a classic example of people helping people!

The Clothes-Line Store address:
201 Athabascan Ave, Sherwood Park, AB T8A 4C8,
Phone: (780) 464-7786

Birthday Party Caricatures

People are always so pleasantly surprised when they go to a birthday party at someone’s house and I’m there doing caricatures! What a nice bonus for them to be able to leave with a caricature of themselves and/or their kids.

Here’s a fun couple …

Caricatures for Sysco Foods Fall Food Expo

I had the pleasure of drawing caricatures again for Sysco Foods at their Fall Food Expo. I was too busy to see very many of the exhibitors but what I did see looked delicious! The white chocolate sculpture of an eagle was amazing. It took some willpower not to take a quick bite out of it on my way past! I drew and met a lot of friendly people from around Alberta that were there for the day.

Check out some of my drawings from the day ….

Window Painting for Hudsons Edmonton

I was in at 3 Hudsons locations this week painting hockey stuff! “#HudsonsGameDay” and instead of painting hockey sticks and pucks, I thought that my hockey players had a bit more pizzaz!

Caricatures at Eid Festival

October 4th I drew caricatures at a festival. There was face painting, a balloon twister, lively music and me doing caricatures! They were celebrating Eid al-Adha, known as the Feast of Sacrifice or the Greater Eid, and is one of the two most important celebrations in the Muslim calendar.

The event was over and I was finishing up drawing caricatures for a family. It finally quiet enough that I could have more of a conversation while drawing. So I asked a bit more about their holiday. I asked their mom, what is the phrase for well wishes for the celebration. We exchanged the greeting “Eid Mubarak”, meaning “blessed Eid”. I tried my best but it sure didn’t roll off my tongue as beautifully as it did hers! So I learned something new that evening!

I had a really good time drawing and was surrounded by kids of all ages excited to get their caricature and watch their friends and/or family being drawn. Here are the caricatures of the nice family I drew at the end of the evening.

Caricatures for The Stollery Children's Hospital Volunteers

Drawing The Stollery Children's Hospital VOLUNTEERS. It’s nice to give something to those who give their time to good causes.

These two women are friends who say it’s more fun to volunteer together. In the drawing of the man and woman, he really made me laugh. Right off the bat he said he figured I'd have a ball drawing him. He was right!

Engagement Caricature

I've had the honour of being part of a few engagement caricatures. Here is a wonderful collage of photos from one of them. It doesn't escape me how special it is to be asked to do
this for a couple’s big moment.

Caricatures at a Wedding Reception

It was a really nice evening drawing a lot of people at a wedding reception. If you look at one of the photos, the one with the woman wearing glasses, notice her baby bump. Nailed it! It’s always nice to be able to make that baby part of the drawing. Makes it extra special. And what fun for me to be able to draw friends that I’ve known for years, that’s them … see the photo with the man with the moustache and striped shirt …

Snow Valley Staff BBQ Caricatures

I think this is my fourth year back drawing caricatures at Snow Valley’s Staff Summer BBQ! It’s their appreciation for the summer staff and a welcome back for the ski season staff that will be back at it once the snow flies. It’s great seeing familiar faces and also see new recruits to the Snow Valley team. There are a lot of people that have been there for years and years. That says something about the atmosphere there don’t you think! Here are some from the day …

MORE Paintings for Sale

I believe I've embraced a new philosophy when it comes to painting. Should a painting look just like a photo, I don’t think so. Shouldn't you see the brush strokes. There’s something to be said for knowing it was done by hand.

Face Painting

Face Painting is a pretty cool form of art! You do it and it gets washed off before bed or on some child’s pillow at night! There are some that I do that I’m so pleased with, like this Ninja Turtle, snake and this little blue birdie!

I so LOVE summer, where there are arms and legs to paint on too.

A Special Portrait Painting

I recently did a painting that I enjoyed working on right from the start. Why? Well just look at the photo that I worked from. You could feel the love these two people had. I swear I could feel it through the photo. It was if I was painting my own grandparents.

When their granddaughter picked up the painting, she started to cry. Knowing that she liked it that much and that it touched her heart in that way when she saw it … well you can imagine, it just made my whole day.

I hope this painting brings joy to their daughter for many years to come.

Caricatures at The High Street Block Party

It was a busy day for met at The High Street Block Party!

I met and drew some pretty neat people. There were two young women from Germany and Bulgaria who are travelling across Canada. You’ll see their photos here with the little maple leaf on their caricature.

A french family with four kids that ranged from ages 5 - 15 who were all the politest, great kids to have sit in front of me to draw. A lady I’ve known for years from the days when I used to be an aquafit instructor at Grand Trunk Fitness & Leisure Centre. A woman who just turned 60 who was celebrating her zest for life and fun. Her smile lit up her whole face. A couple who made me laugh. Specifically the guy who would continuously raise one eyebrow every time I looked up at him! I drew a couple’s two little dogs.

And here is a picture of a guy with his dog who put sunglasses on him when they sat down for their caricature. The man told someone the dog’s name and said that the dog has his own website. Sorry, I have forgotten the dog’s name so you may have a hard time finding the little guy’s website!

Thank you to The High Street businesses for asking me to be there.
