Drew caricatures at a very big, very busy kid’s birthday party! This first little girl (from my photos here), in the blue dress, helped me with my sign up sheet all afternoon. I was so impressed at how she took on the task and was un-wavered! What a huge help she was and she kept the kids coming so I could just concentrate on drawing.
Don’t you think that the girl wearing all the gold necklaces looks like a young Molly Ringwald from Pretty in Pink? I think so!
One lady was so pleased to be able to have gotten a caricature of all three of her kids. See the photo below
I was in at 3 Hudsons locations this week painting hockey stuff! “#HudsonsGameDay” and instead of painting
hockey sticks and pucks, I thought that my hockey players had a bit more pizzaz!
I recently did a painting that I enjoyed working on right from the start. Why? Well just look at the photo that I worked from. You could feel the love these two people had. I swear I could feel it through the photo. It was if I was painting my own grandparents.
When their granddaughter picked up the painting, she started to cry. Knowing that she liked it that much and that it touched her heart in that way when she saw it … well you can imagine, it just made my whole day.
I hope this painting brings joy to their daughter for many years to come.
I've done a few roller derby logos over the last few years and here is my latest!
It's for Sturgeon County Junior Roller Derby Association. I think the skater is pretty cute and fierce!
Why the DO NOT COPY all over it? Well it seems as though some new roller derby clubs have tried to use my art in the past. It's quite frustrating as an artist because this is how I make my living and some people think they can use it without paying for it just because they are able to copy it off the internet. Please respect the effort that I took to do it and respect the fact that SCRDA paid me for it. It is mine and it is theirs. If you'd like me to work on a logo for you, please contact me and I'd love to do something cool for you too!

I did the interview with Dan Tencer & Andrew Grose last week and then went in today and drew sportscaster Brian Hall. I happened to bring my daughter along with me and I introduced them and Brian chatted so positively with her about university (UAlberta) and becoming a teacher. He put her at ease so quickly. He's just that kind of man: so warm hearted and friendly. I like to talk with the person I'm drawing to make them feel more comfortable but there was no need to do that with Brian. He sat
back and talked with us and batta-bing, batta-boom, the drawing was done!
My daughter, Quinlyn, was intrigued by his office. Brian Hall has been in broadcasting for many years so he had lots of cool memorabilia on the walls and on some shelves. Quinlyn being an Eskimo season ticket holder and Brian Hall being the voice of The Eskimos for years, she thought it was pretty cool meeting him!

I will enjoy this in my dining room until a new owner takes it for their own. I started this painting just before my busy Christmas season started and so I finally got back to it and can now say that it’s done!

This painting changed from having a lot of burgundies in it to just a hint of that. This, group of three, hangs in a family room that has a lot of windows and a view of trees, bushes, and grass. I see this painting as bringing the green inside as well. Once I brought the paintings over the the client’s home to see the change to lots of green, we knew it was right. This is something I would love to have kept myself! I guess that’s what I strive for in all my paintings - that I’m so happy with them that it’s hard to say good bye to them.

A fantastic day at the park for AIT Client Services Staff Picnic this past week. So nice to sit and draw people on a beautiful, sunny day. I hope I added to the enjoyment of the day. People enjoyed sitting down for their own caricature and many people would pop over ever once in awhile to see how everyone else's caricature was turning out. The plan was to photo copy them and hang them up in an office hallway and everyone then gets to take the original home. A great way to liven up and lighten up any work place!
I was asked to go to Lloydminster recently to draw caricatures for Husky at their big 75th Anniversary party.
They had music, cotton candy and other goodies, face painting, juggling, magic and ME doing caricatures. Something for everyone. Man, they sure know how to throw a party! The only thing that would have made the trip perfect, was if the Starbucks had been open when it was all wrapped up so that I could have treated myself to a Chai Latte for my drive home to Edmonton!
The Summer Village of West Cove was celebrating their 50 years as a lake community with face painters, a mechanical bucking bull, a parade, yummy food and caricatures! Later in the evening they were going to have fire dancers and a community dance. They know how to celebrate! I feel pretty lucky to get to meet nice people on a continuous basis when being hired to do caricatures at events. Here are a few of them ….
A good night with lots of great people, drawing caricatures at a wedding reception held on a family farm. I thought it was really cool how they had it under a big tent and the bows on the tent and on the chairs were made of burlap.
Getting there a bit early, I got to listen to the speeches. Funny how, even though I may not know the people personally, I still enjoy listening to them. It also gives you a chance to kind of know who you'll be drawing for that evening. On this night, the bride's dad made me laugh out loud!
I got to draw the bride's mom with her siblings, the bride's 93 year old grandpa, a couple celebrating their 40th anniversary that same night, the groom's mom and dad finally made it to my chair as well, just to name a bunch. I liked how the bride's grandpa came by every once in awhile to take a look at what I was drawing and he'd smile. THAT sure was a good feeling for me.
Here are a couple of my favourite drawings. The bride and groom got a chance to sit down at the end of my night. What a good looking couple hey … and nice on top of it! I wish them much love and success in life.
DRAWING FOR AMUSEMENT SAKE -
I was warming up my drawing hand before a caricature event and from afar I spied a lady with what appeared to be
cat eyed glasses and hair in this style. It inspired me to draw this. Everything beyond the hair and glasses were just
made up for fun. A little bit of marker added.
I went down to Lethbridge, Alberta recently to do caricatures for the administration team at Park Place Shopping Centre to celebrate and inspire them in their “Fish Philosophy” project. They were a great bunch of people to meet and I’m sure together, they can not only run a great “Green” shopping centre but do some good things for the community. It was a pleasure and honour to be asked to travel down to add to do black and white individual caricatures as well as this large, coloured group caricature!

I drew caricatures today at a Playground Building event. I was glad to have been able to do caricatures for some of the volunteers.
I drew a couple that I recognized from somewhere and after much head scratching we figured out that we’d met last weekend at a U of A Parent Orientation and actually chatted and had lunch together there! Another lady I talked to remembered me from when I first started drawing caricatures at West Edmonton Mall about 25 years ago! She talked about a caricature I’d done of her aunt who has since passed away and how much her aunt loved the drawing. I commented that I’m sure that I could do a better job now. Her reply was, “Oh I don’t know, she just loved it!”
And of course there are all the new people I met today, including this cute little boy! He was awesome ... he held that smile for me the whole time. And then there were these three young men who are doing mission work doing good deeds where ever they go. Like volunteering to build this playground today. Two of them were from different states in the United States and one was from Mongolia! I’m so glad I was able to give them this little keepsake of the time they’ve spent together doing good things in this world. Safe travels and all the best to you guys!
The project was a project with Foresters KaBOOM. Here is a little information about KaBoom!: KaBOOM! is a non-profit organization that envisions a great place to play within walking distance of every child. By partnering with KaBOOM!, Foresters is able to make a direct, positive impact on children and their families by both financially supporting and participating in playground builds.
According to a research study commissioned by Foresters and KaBOOM! and conducted by Harris Interactive in January 2011, time spent at a community playground is valuable to families, with 77% of parents agreeing that spending more time at a playground increases a family’s sense of well-being.
That’s why Foresters have invested more than $7 million dollars with KaBOOM!. Together we have built or planned nearly 100 playgrounds across North America since 2006, which will eventually give more than 2.6 million children and their families a safe, happy place to play. But Foresters didn’t do it alone. More than 2500 Foresters members have volunteered at playground builds since 2006 - rolling up their sleeves, mixing concrete, shovelling mulch and assembling play equipment - all in an effort to build wonderful play spaces in just a single day. I can attest to this. I was so impressed by all the volunteers eager to give their time and energy today to build the playground at Brittany Lane. It was really well organized with water stations, food tents, port-a-potties and even a shuttle bus to bring all the volunteers to the site. Here is a little bit about Brittany Lane Housing Co-Operative:
Brittany Lane is a 58 unit non-profit housing co-operative. They provide safe, attractive, self-governed and community-oriented housing at an affordable cost to their members. The membership includes Canadians from different backgrounds, cultures, family compositions, and income levels. We are also home to over 90 children.
2012 marks the United Nations International Year of Co-operative(IYC) and Brittany Lane Housing Co-ops 20th Anniversary. Building a much-needed new playground and gathering space together with the help of their members and the community at large is a phenomenal IYC legacy project.
I did this artwork for the cover awhile ago and the cookbooks are ready!
