Day 2 at The Cheremosh Ukraininan Dance Festival

I have a lot of photos to show from the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Festival but I was there for 10 hours so it makes sense that I’d have this many photos to show you! I loved drawing at this festival because as you can see, the dancers were so good at smiling - they made it easy for me. I got to draw lots of braids and lovely Ukrainian attire. So here are only SOME of my favourites from the day … I had such a wonderful time but boy, was I tired at the end. You don’t realise how tired you are until you stop!

When I look at these they bring a smile to my face. Hope they do the same for you. I feel so lucky being able to do this for a living.

A Special Portrait Painting

I recently did a painting that I enjoyed working on right from the start. Why? Well just look at the photo that I worked from. You could feel the love these two people had. I swear I could feel it through the photo. It was if I was painting my own grandparents.

When their granddaughter picked up the painting, she started to cry. Knowing that she liked it that much and that it touched her heart in that way when she saw it … well you can imagine, it just made my whole day.

I hope this painting brings joy to their daughter for many years to come.

My Latest Painting now has a Partner (and you can buy it!)

I did the first painting on the left and just finished the painting on the right to go along with it. I like to set my paintings on my mantle and glance at it now and again and tweak it a bit if I feel the need. I sure enjoyed painting with colour and relaxing on painting details.

The set or individual paintings for sale. Please contact me if interested.

I Drew Caricatures at St. Boniface Elementary School

It was such a pleasant afternoon recently, drawing caricatures for the teacher’s Thank you Luncheon put on by the parent council at St. Boniface Elementary School Edmonton. I had a great time chatting with the teachers as I drew them since my daughter has just finished her second year of Elementary Education at the University of Alberta and my sister is a teacher. My uncle, aunt and grandma were teachers as well. I have a lot of respect for those who strive to educate our children.

Here are a couple of the caricature drawings done that day! ...

My Latest Roller Derby Logo Design

My Latest Roller Derby Logo Design

I've done a few roller derby logos over the last few years and here is my latest!

It's for Sturgeon County Junior Roller Derby Association. I think the skater is pretty cute and fierce!

Why the DO NOT COPY all over it? Well it seems as though some new roller derby clubs have tried to use my art in the past. It's quite frustrating as an artist because this is how I make my living and some people think they can use it without paying for it just because they are able to copy it off the internet. Please respect the effort that I took to do it and respect the fact that SCRDA paid me for it. It is mine and it is theirs. If you'd like me to work on a logo for you, please contact me and I'd love to do something cool for you too!

Caricatures at the Alberta Services for Students Conference hosted by NAIT

Last night I had fun drawing at the Alberta Services for Students Conference hosted by NAIT. Here are two of my favourite drawings and a couple awesome women! It was such a pleasant evening. And for me, the organisers had brought extra chairs for people waiting in line. So at any time, if I looked over, there would be 6 other people waiting. But they all were relaxed, chatting with the person beside them, enjoying their time. I'm definitely going to suggest a line of chairs supplied if at all possible in the future at other events!

Drawing Caricatures Video

Check out the video of me drawing 630CHED's Brian Hall incorporated in with some of my on air interview on The Tencer & Grose Show. So great of Kelsey Wingerak to put this video together and put it on 630CHED's website. Kelsey is the Producer of The Tencer & Show.

I did the interview with Dan Tencer & Andrew Grose last week and then went in today and drew sportscaster Brian Hall. I happened to bring my daughter along with me and I introduced them and Brian chatted so positively with her about university (UAlberta) and becoming a teacher. He put her at ease so quickly. He's just that kind of man: so warm hearted and friendly. I like to talk with the person I'm drawing to make them feel more comfortable but there was no need to do that with Brian. He sat
back and talked with us and batta-bing, batta-boom, the drawing was done!

My daughter, Quinlyn, was intrigued by his office. Brian Hall has been in broadcasting for many years so he had lots of cool memorabilia on the walls and on some shelves. Quinlyn being an Eskimo season ticket holder and Brian Hall being the voice of The Eskimos for years, she thought it was pretty cool meeting him!

I'd like to thank the great people at 630CHED for having me in for the interview for their first guest on the segment ""Unique Jobs in Edmonton". Kelsey Wingerak, Dan Tencer, Andrew Grose and Brian Hall, all made my stop in at 630CHED a fantastic experience!

Pondering Change, Tulip Painting

TULIP PAINTING FOR SALE - has changed a bit.

Sometimes paintings have a bit of an evolution. This painting started out from a photo I’d taken of white and pink tulips. I got the green leaves painted first and then once I added the pink, the pink felt wrong. The leaves had overpowered the whole painting. Then I started adding more colour to the tulips. Recently I thought it was done and had posted a photo of it. But as it hung in my dining room, there didn’t seem to be quite enough depth in the tulips. I finally feel that it’s done. When I took it from my dining room and set it on my mantel to take this photo, I stood back and was amazed at the power of the colour!

If you’re interested in this celebration of colour for your home or office, send me a message and we’ll chat.

Refreshing to Paint like this!

I don’t know what got into me, painting with colour and no detail! But I love it! I’ve always loved colour but always gotten so into detail. Don’t get me wrong, I love painting that way but it’s so exciting to do something a little different. I’ll see where this takes me but for now ….

Edmonton couple get a caricature gift at the party

It’s always neat drawing at a birthday party where people arrive and are so surprised to see that they are going to get a caricature at the party, to be able to take something like this home.

what great smiles this couple has! ….

Digital drawing - Walking his dog

I drew this illustration a few days back on a sunny day as a watched a neighbour walking with his dog in the field behind our house. We've got snow so I used a little bit of artistic license.

I'm sure enjoying digital drawings... I find myself excited to pick up my tablet, just for the pure enjoyment of creating.

Jubilee Auditorium staff Christmas party

Back at the Jubilee Auditorium for a second year, drawing caricatures for their staff Christmas party.

Seeing friendly familiar faces is always nice. It was even more fun to run into an old friend after years gone by and to see he and his family doing so well and so happy.

And then I met a nice couple who knows a caricaturist friend of mine. It's a small world.

Here are a couple photos from the evening

Paintings - A Palm Leaves canvas series

A painting series that belong together!

This painting changed from having a lot of burgundies in it to just a hint of that. This, group of three, hangs in a family room that has a lot of windows and a view of trees, bushes, and grass. I see this painting as bringing the green inside as well. Once I brought the paintings over the the client’s home to see the change to lots of green, we knew it was right. This is something I would love to have kept myself! I guess that’s what I strive for in all my paintings - that I’m so happy with them that it’s hard to say good bye to them.
