Edmonton Event Caricatures: Artist Laurel

It just hit me how many different kinds of smiles there are out there and how many I’ve captures on paper! Smiles and eyes are almost like fingerprints - no two seem to be exactly alike. It’s fun when you can draw someone’s and you say to yourself, “Ya! I got it! That’s them alright!”

And kids … it’s funny when their parent will say, “Okay, smile!” and they give you the most fake smile imaginable. So you accept it but you don’t draw it and before you know it, that fake smile relaxes and you finally get a glimpse of the real one. I’m getting pretty good at spotting the fake ones.

But the best smiles are the ones you get when you show people their caricature!

Face Painting at the Secord Show Homes Event

It was a sunny but windy day at the Edmonton event for Secord Show Homes yesterday! 

The wind or crowds did not stop families from coming by to look through the beautiful homes and get some cool free swag: chocolate covered cheesecake on a stick, sliders, balloon animals, bubble fun AND my daughter and I doing face painting!

Caricatures at a Children's Company Christmas Party

I drew some pretty awesome kids today at a company Christmas party at Egge’s Barn at Fort Edmonton. Here are just a few. This was my first Christmas party of the 2013 season. It’s gonna be quite the ride till I get to Christmas. Look for lots of examples of my work throughout the season on my blog.

Oh, and on a different note, I was walking to my vehicle and couldn’t get over how beautiful it was outside. The recent snow has made the scenery absolutely gorgeous down at Fort Edmonton and along the river valley. Ya, we have to deal with the snowy roads but on a bright, sunny day … it’s a post card out there folks!

FACE PAINTING at company picnic and birthday party.

FACE PAINTING!

On the weekend I was at two events, a company picnic and a birthday party. 

This girl’s face looks pretty cool even if I do say so myself! It’s a bit freaky how her nose kind of disappears amongst the blue and white dots. Have you noticed yet that I love swirls and white dots! Can you tell that I had a blast doing it?! 

This girl’s arm was fun. She said, “Surprise Me” and so I asked her what kind of things she likes. Yup, she likes dogs. She was really happy with it and so was I. I have it written right on my face painting sign, that if they don’t want to pick from one of the image choices on my board that they can just say, “Surprise Me”. I try and do something different each time. I’ve discovered some new, fun stuff that way and gives my imagination a workout.
