Face painting is another form of art I do! Kids love to get their faces painted. I enjoy painting on arms so that kids can see the art too. This little boy loved his T-Rex. And this girl was decked out in cool sugar skull attire and I was so excited to add to the whole look!

Caricatures by Edmonton artist Lauel: Strathearn Art Walk
It was the first time I joined in with other artists at the Strathearn Art Walk. The Strathearn community is really nice with the event held in a big green space overlooking the river valley and Edmonton's downtown skyline. There were a lot of artists and a wide variety of art for people to enjoy viewing the artist's creations. There was a beer garden, kid's crafts, food and music. I saw artists I knew and met a few more. It's hard when you have your own tent set up, to be able to get away to look around. After all, if I wasn't in my tent I couldn't do any caricatures. I also displayed some of my paintings. I haven't had much free time to paint lately which kind of frustrates me ... I'd really love more hours in the day! I look forward to next year's Strathearn Art Walk.
Here are some of the people I drew ....

Company Picnic Caricature Gifts: Edmonton Artist Laurel
It was my second year back at A & B Rail’s company picnic! It was a warm afternoon at Laurier Park and staff and
families played a friendly game of baseball. I drew caricatures and even did some repeats from last year.
Drew someone’s daughter who’d since had her braces taken off so of course there was a need for a new
caricature! One young guy showed me the drawing I’d done of him last year from his phone, “Yup, you’ve
changed since last year! You definitely look older!”
Here are a few of my favourites from the day. I always appreciate people letting me take their photo with
their caricature.

Staff Appreciation Party Caricatures by Edmonton Artist Laurel
It’s so much fun drawing curls and this lady has the most fabulous hair! Showing curls without getting to caught up in the details of all of it is tricky sometimes. I was really pleased with this one. This was drawn at a Staff Appreciation Party. Goodies, good hearted conversation and everyone enjoying seeing each other's caricatures!

Kid's Birthday Party Caricatures: Edmonton Artist Laurel
Drew caricatures at a very big, very busy kid’s birthday party! This first little girl (from my photos here), in the blue dress, helped me with my sign up sheet all afternoon. I was so impressed at how she took on the task and was un-wavered! What a huge help she was and she kept the kids coming so I could just concentrate on drawing.
Don’t you think that the girl wearing all the gold necklaces looks like a young Molly Ringwald from Pretty in Pink? I think so!
One lady was so pleased to be able to have gotten a caricature of all three of her kids. See the photo below

Caricatures at Snow Valley's Staff Christmas Party in January
I believe it was my 4th time back drawing caricatures at Snow Valley’s Staff Christmas Party! Feeling a bit like home when I go to a Snow Valley function! And always thankful when they invite me back. It’s always a treat for me to do it in January instead of the craziness of before Christmas. I think it’s great for people to have something like a party to look forward to once January hits. I got to draw some new and familiar faces. Someone I may have drawn before along side their new friend or boyfriend/girlfriend.
Remember to head to Snow Valley to get some skiing in. Such a great thing to have, handy to get to in the middle of Edmonton. It’s always been easy for us to drop our teenage son and his friends off for a day of skiing. A safe, family oriented place for all to enjoy.

Caricatures for Shell Christmas Party Edmonton
I had a great time drawing for a Shell Christmas Party. They treated their employees to a jazz band, DJ, karaoke, a great dinner and me doing caricatures! It was cold night with snow from a recent big snowfall, but everyone was having a great time. I enjoyed chatting with those people I drew. Here are a few of my favourite drawings from the evening.

Face and Body Painting at Christmas Party Edmonton
What do you get when you have a Christmas party and little girls in pretty dresses? …. You get several who want you to paint Elsa from the movie “Frozen”! They were so adorable all together.
Santas, snowmen, snowflakes, Grinch, gingerbread men …. it’s such a nice treat to paint Christmas things instead of the usual stuff.

Caricatures at the INTUIT Kid's Christmas Party Edmonton
This little girl was so super cute. She gave me about six different smiles to choose from!I loved her little
sweater dress as you can see in the drawing. Another one of my favourite things: her hair style. I love drawing
that crisp cut.
It was a day of drawing entire families. I don’t have any photos though because one family member would sit down for me while the rest of them were off getting their face painted, or a balloon animal made, or eating and then once I was done drawing that person, the member of the family would come over and the one sitting in my chair would head off to do the other activities too. Gathering a whole family up for a photo seemed like too much to ask. But I’m happy to have this little gem of a photo to show you ….

Edmonton's Movember Wrap Up Party
I was honoured to be asked back to this year’s Annual MOVEMBER Wrap Up Party, held at Central Social Hall in downtown Edmonton. There were some fine moustaches, side burns and facial hair of all degrees for me to draw. What fun!
Now that I’m home and looking at the photos, I see that the lighting wasn’t the best for the camera on my phone. So if you are in one of these photos, I’d love it if you emailed me another photo of you (and the other person in the photo if it’s a two person caricature) , holding up the caricature.
The organizers had me sitting right in front of the speaker but I didn’t mind because they were playing some pretty great music!
Very exciting for me, I pulled out a brush tip marker half way through the night, thinking I’d give it a shot. And I LOVED it! Looking forward to my future with a brush tip marker instead of my Sharpies. Sorry Sharpie.

Caricatures gifts at a Family Birthday Party
It was fun for everyone at a 2 Year Old Birthday Party! I drew Caricatures for the guests at a lovely little girl’s birthday party. Here is one that made me smile! Oh my gosh, it looks like I forgot to draw the the scruff on his chin. If this is a picture of you, can you please get a sharpie and add it in?! It’s going to drive me crazy that I didn’t do that. What was I thinking?

Ever draw a caricature and look at it and think that something’s missing but you don’t know what it is. Then you notice that you’ve forgotten one eyebrow or something like that.

Edmonton couple get a caricature gift at the party
It’s always neat drawing at a birthday party where people arrive and are so surprised to see that they
are going to get a caricature at the party, to be able to take something like this home.
Caricatures for Husky's 75th Anniversary Party in Lloydminister
I was asked to go to Lloydminster recently to draw caricatures for Husky at their big 75th Anniversary party.
They had music, cotton candy and other goodies, face painting, juggling, magic and ME doing caricatures. Something for everyone. Man, they sure know how to throw a party! The only thing that would have made the trip perfect, was if the Starbucks had been open when it was all wrapped up so that I could have treated myself to a Chai Latte for my drive home to Edmonton!

Caricatures at a birthday party
I Spent the evening drawing caricatures at a birthday party. I Enjoyed drawing several generations of friends and
family. Here's one of my favourites! … brothers that I really enjoyed watching how they interacted with each other.
I could tell that they thought each their brother was pretty great. Dare I say that it was pretty darned sweet!
They'd probably groan if they heard that!
Caricatures at a Birthday Party
Drew lots of little kids today at a birthday party. It was really interesting because the first little guy I drew was NOT interested at all in sitting for me, "When are you gonna be done, why is it taking so long" over and over again. So I thought that would be the last I saw of him the very second I said I was done but he ended up watching me draw and helping me almost the whole time. In helping me I mean, getting the next piece of paper, getting the next person I was to draw, etc. So someone who I thought I'd go home saying, "UGH, I had this kid who was so not interested in me being there …" ended up being a cheerful, bright spot in my afternoon! Never good to judge too quickly.
Caricatures at a Surprise Birthday Party
I enjoyed being part of the surprise this evening for a Birthday Party. Me and Karaoke and a whole bunch of friends and family! Here are a few of the caricatures I did over the evening.
Someone mentioned that "it's like you can see into our soul!" I took that as quite a compliment. I do try to get a feel for what the person is like and express that in the caricature.
Ya know it never gets old for me to have people eager to sit down for a caricature. Oh my, the amount of people I've met over the years!

Engagement Party Caricatures!
I've been asked to do caricatures at a real variety of events. No event is out of the question (well, …. maybe).
This caricature was done at an Engagement Party. A great group of family and friends gathered to celebrate. This was one of my favourites. I love it when someone sits down with different piercings, a unique hair style, facial hair or just their own, unique look to them. One guy at the party said, "My girlfriend isn't here tonight so would it be okay if I got a caricature with my dog?" and he pulled out a photo of his dog on his phone. So that started a bit of a trend because another guy did the same thing!
Then there was the guy who got me to draw him and his girlfriend from a photo of her on his phone because she's away in the states taking optometry. He wanted to mail it to her for Valentine's Day.
One couple that was there, I'd drawn two years ago so they sat down and wanted me to draw his face partially like a raptor and her partially as a cougar. Strange but did it! They loved it. And I have to admit that I think it turned out a lot better than I thought it would when they first asked.
Always a good time for me. I'm lucky.

caricatures for SWCA Christmas Social
| SWCA (Society of Western Canadian Artists) |
I enjoyed my evening drawing caricatures for some of the members of SWCA (Society of Western Canadian Artists) during their Christmas Social. I was quite nervous drawing other artists but they were very warm and welcoming. Here are a few ladies posing with me holding their caricatures! Several years ago I was a member of SWCA but decided I needed more time to do my artwork instead of talking about doing artwork. But really, the meetings are once a month ... I think I'm going to take the time to go back because each month's meetings were really informative and it's great talking with other artists.

I got to draw Jason Strudwick
Tonight at a neighbourhood Christmas party I was thrilled to draw Jason Strudwick from the Edmonton Oilers. Being a Canadian girl that watched hockey growing up and now the mom of two kids who love hockey and the Edmonton Oilers … it was a real treat for me. Looking forward to showing my kids this photo!
By the way, he seemed like a really nice man. I asked him if he'd mind if I took a picture of him with his caricature and he suggested that the photo be with me in it too.
