Kinsmen Sports Centre Kid's Den Sign Design

I'm excited to see this sign I designed and just delivered put up at Kinsmen Sports Centre for the City of Edmonton! It will be put up soon, going into their Kid's Den play room. I love their motto, "Where Little Athletes Train". I am proud of the diversity shown in this art. This truly symbolises what Edmonton is all about. And besides, I think all the little kiddies in the art are cute!

Caricatures by Edmonton artist Lauel: Strathearn Art Walk

It was the first time I joined in with other artists at the Strathearn Art Walk. The Strathearn community is really nice with the event held in a big green space overlooking the river valley and Edmonton's downtown skyline. There were a lot of artists and a wide variety of art for people to enjoy viewing the artist's creations. There was a beer garden, kid's crafts, food and music. I saw artists I knew and met a few more. It's hard when you have your own tent set up, to be able to get away to look around. After all, if I wasn't in my tent I couldn't do any caricatures. I also displayed some of my paintings. I haven't had much free time to paint lately which kind of frustrates me ... I'd really love more hours in the day! I look forward to next year's Strathearn Art Walk.

Family Caricatures in Colour! Edmonton Artist Laurel

Still loving my Cintiq Companion artist’s tablet for doing coloured art work! Giving a clean, professional coloured caricature now makes it feel like years ago since I was doing them with markers. Thank goodness those days are gone. No more marker lines, accidental smudges that make me have to start from scratch. Now the shading quality is lovely and I’m proud to give this kind of final art piece. This way the final digital copy is also an option for the recipient. Caricatures for Staff Appreciation Day

It was great being part of Staff Appreciation Day for the Greater Edmonton Foundation and Seniors Housing. It was nice hearing how much they really enjoy their job and were enjoying the recognition for their work.

Greater Edmonton Foundation Seniors Housing is the largest not-for-profit registered charity providing subsidized senior’s housing in Alberta. Their mission is to provide friendly, affordable, secure housing and services for seniors in the Edmonton community.

I hope you enjoy looking through the various caricatures I’ve done. Caricatures are drawn in just a few minutes but hopefully it brings back pleasant memories of the day they received it for years to come.

Caricature Drawing of a Fellow Artist

A drawing of a fellow artist! I met Bernd at the ISCA Convention (International Society of Caricature Artists) last November. Bernd is from Austria! I met so many artists from around the world, it was absolutely amazing! The variety of art styles was more than I could have imagined. If you do caricatures, I suggest you check out the ISCA website, become a member and head to the next convention!

Till the next time, drawing new friends from the convention is on my list of “free time” drawing. I don’t actually get free time, but ya gotta make the time every once in awhile!

A Happy Caricature Recipient at Finning Edmonton

What a great smile! I sure had fun drawing this caricature. I’m always so pleased when I am able to see the person who received the caricature. It’s fun for me to see them side by side. This was a going away gift from some of the people in his department at FINNING. I hope this always brings a smile to his face when he looks at it and think of his coworkers fondly.

 Looks like his hair is longer than in the photo I’d worked from. I would have had a great time making his hair taller in the caricature!

Caricatures on Canada Day

I face painted, along side my daughter, on Canada Day at the Canadian Forces Base Edmonton. It was a hot day, thankfully we were under at tent so not only didn’t the kids in line appreciate getting their face, leg or arm painted, but they also got to sit in the shade while we painted on them! All the kids were really polite and sat still well for us too and when you’re painting on someone, that really helps.

My favourite of the day was the young girl who wanted her whole face the Canadian flag. Hope she was going out after the CFB Canada Day festivities were over to show off her patriotism!

Here is also a photo of a little cutie who wanted a full face ladybug. I had never actually done a full face ladybug before so I thought it turned out just fine. I also liked the two brothers who wanted the funky design on their arms: one in gold, one in silver.

CFB Edmonton sure puts on a fine event for people out at the base! I didn’t have a chance to walk around since I got there, set up, had just enough time to get this awesome photo of my daughter, Quinlyn, and I in front of their giant Canadian flag …. then paint for 3 hours! Quinlyn thought it was cool when we pulled up to the park and there was a tank “right there!"
