Drawing Caricatures Video

Check out the video of me drawing 630CHED's Brian Hall incorporated in with some of my on air interview on The Tencer & Grose Show. So great of Kelsey Wingerak to put this video together and put it on 630CHED's website. Kelsey is the Producer of The Tencer & Show.

I did the interview with Dan Tencer & Andrew Grose last week and then went in today and drew sportscaster Brian Hall. I happened to bring my daughter along with me and I introduced them and Brian chatted so positively with her about university (UAlberta) and becoming a teacher. He put her at ease so quickly. He's just that kind of man: so warm hearted and friendly. I like to talk with the person I'm drawing to make them feel more comfortable but there was no need to do that with Brian. He sat
back and talked with us and batta-bing, batta-boom, the drawing was done!

My daughter, Quinlyn, was intrigued by his office. Brian Hall has been in broadcasting for many years so he had lots of cool memorabilia on the walls and on some shelves. Quinlyn being an Eskimo season ticket holder and Brian Hall being the voice of The Eskimos for years, she thought it was pretty cool meeting him!

I'd like to thank the great people at 630CHED for having me in for the interview for their first guest on the segment ""Unique Jobs in Edmonton". Kelsey Wingerak, Dan Tencer, Andrew Grose and Brian Hall, all made my stop in at 630CHED a fantastic experience!

Caricatures at the NAIT Student Association Awards Night

I Had a great time drawing at the NAIT Student Association Awards Night! Great to see a few people I knew.

It was a great mixture of school staff, parents and students. The entertainment was amazing. They had a Michael Bublé impersonator that was fantastic, a quartet playing during dinner, fire dancers (I think, I was busy drawing), two of us doing caricatures, a photo booth and an amazing meal. NAIT Student’s Association - you know how to do an event well!

Look What a Nice Family Sent Me!

After doing caricatures at The Pop Culture Fair, I’d mentioned in my blog that one of the few pictures I took that day had come out blurry. A couple days later I received a nice surprise in my email box...  these two adorable kid’s dad had emailed me pictures of the exact kids and their caricature that I’d been talking about! Now I have a super crisp clear photo to look at for years to come! Little things in life mean a lot sometimes. Check this photo out and see why I was bummed out that the photo I’d taken didn’t turn out….

Even Parents Want in on the Action

Caricatures at Edmonton Pop Culture Fair

Good times once again at the Edmonton Pop Culture Fair!

Here is a caricature from the day. I really should have taken more photos. Drat! And one other photo I took of a couple cute little kids I’d drawn, turned out completely blurry. I should have checked it! Double drat!

I saw a few people who came back again from last year’s show to see me again and get another caricature. Drew a couple friends who stopped to say hi. And of course, met some new, great people. I haven’t mentioned this lately but when you think that our society is totally crummy, all you have to do is set up a couple chairs and your easel and draw some people … and I guarantee that you’ll meet some great people.

Tulip Painting is SOLD

I’m happy to say that one of my paintings has been sold and is now in the home of a new family. I hope it brightens their family room for many years to come. The owner has collected a lot of art so I’m happy to be included in her collection!

Lifeguard Poster Designs

I just finished a series of Lifeguarding posters that I’m really happy with. I did the images on my new Wacom Windows tablet! I love the shading that it allows me to do. Here are two of my favourites. I thought it was cool how I showed the male lifeguard’s head turning to the left and the right.

The City of Edmonton is serious about their responsibility of lifeguarding their patrons. I’ve always been impressed with their facilities and proud to have done a lot of work for them over the years.

“Full of Colour” PAINTING FOR SALE

I had set these paintings up on my mantel to look at from time to time to see if I was completely satisfied with it. Turns out, I wasn’t. So with a little bit more paint and standing back some more … it’s done.

If you’re interested in having these paintings full of warmth and colour, send me a message.

Pondering Change, Tulip Painting

TULIP PAINTING FOR SALE - has changed a bit.

Sometimes paintings have a bit of an evolution. This painting started out from a photo I’d taken of white and pink tulips. I got the green leaves painted first and then once I added the pink, the pink felt wrong. The leaves had overpowered the whole painting. Then I started adding more colour to the tulips. Recently I thought it was done and had posted a photo of it. But as it hung in my dining room, there didn’t seem to be quite enough depth in the tulips. I finally feel that it’s done. When I took it from my dining room and set it on my mantel to take this photo, I stood back and was amazed at the power of the colour!

If you’re interested in this celebration of colour for your home or office, send me a message and we’ll chat.

Caricature Event at Edmonton's Mill Woods Rec Centre

It was a cold day in Edmonton so, It was nice to spend it inside a Rec Centre.  There a was a good size crowd swimming and many going into the Skating rink and the Fitness Centre too.  I was able to meet a few friends going in that I had not seen for quite some time.  Seeing families out enjoying their Sunday was a good way to spend the afternoon.

The City of Edmonton's Mill Woods Rec Centre was hopping yesterday... here is one of the Caricatures that I drew.

Ther City of Edmonton Colouring & Activity Book artwork

I got a few hard copies of the artwork I'd worked on for The City of Edmonton's Colouring & Activity Book. The main objective was to teach pool safety in a fun way.

Some of the drawings still make me smile after several months of finishing it:

1) The little boy and girl standing proudly with their lifejackets on
2) The three kids in "Always swim with a Buddy" and
3) The two kiddies in "If you can't swim, stay in shallow water."

It's nice to see a big project complete and printed officially.

Face Painting

I love it when adults want to sit down for some face painting! It tells me what kind of person they are, similar to me … I would sit down for it if there were no kids in line. And it’s always surprising to see what they choose to have painted!

Refreshing to Paint like this!

I don’t know what got into me, painting with colour and no detail! But I love it! I’ve always loved colour but always gotten so into detail. Don’t get me wrong, I love painting that way but it’s so exciting to do something a little different. I’ll see where this takes me but for now ….

Caricatures for FLUENT Edmonton

I was asked to draw caricatures at a company info session. I had such a great time drawing, listening to the positive atmosphere in the room. I really thought the vibe of the company is awesome! Here are some of my favourite drawings from the evening at Fluent Edmonton. I actually would have loved to have taken photos of each drawing - it was that kinda night!

Caricatures at Homes By Avi Show Homes

My first caricature job for Homes By Avi and it was such a pleasant day of drawing young couples and families. I was set up in the very modern, open living room that was a pleasure to draw in because of all the windows that gave such great natural light.  the Showhome in Chappelle Gardens was easy to find - which was nice too.

I got there early enough that I was able to take a quick look around the show home before people started arriving. Loved their layout design and the way they decorated it.

Once people started arriving, I was busy till it was time to go. I drew one family who have been in Canada for 5 years, from Mexico. I asked the mom how she liked the Edmonton winters and to my surprise, she said she liked it when it snows. I said that I've lived here my whole life and I still don't like winter! It was nice that they were able to head home with a caricature of their whole family.

I even drew a few of the staff and caterers! What a great group!

Hopefully I will be asked back, to draw Caricatures at another Homes By Avi event!   If you have an event contact me I'd be happy to add an artistic touch to your event (wedding, open house, Corporate event, family gathering , picnic...)

It’s always neat drawing at a birthday party where people arrive and are so surprised to see that they are going to get a caricature at the party, to be able to take something like this home.

Digital drawing - Walking his dog

I drew this illustration a few days back on a sunny day as a watched a neighbour walking with his dog in the field behind our house. We've got snow so I used a little bit of artistic license.

I'm sure enjoying digital drawings... I find myself excited to pick up my tablet, just for the pure enjoyment of creating.
