Caricatures at University of Alberta Business Graduation

I had a blast drawing caricatures at the UofA’s Business student’s graduation held at The Delta Edmonton Centre Suite Hotel ! Met a lot of up and coming business men and women who were great to talk to while I drew them. The atmosphere was great … I wonder if it had anything to do with being set up in the entrance way along with the bar? Hmmm?! Take a look at all these great faces…

I hope these caricatures are a keepsake of their evening and this special time in their lives.

Edmonton's UofA Campus Hudsons window painting

I was back at Hudson’s for a second year, painting shamrocks for their St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

I feel like the shamrock expert now! Here’s a close up from the inside to see the brush strokes. The real trick here is to NOT get bored of painting the same thing over and over again! It’s a bit like meditation because you can only go at a certain pace and you don’t have to think too hard because well, once you’ve painted one shamrock you know what you’re doing … but you still need to be on the ball enough to NOT fall off the ladder or stool you’re standing on! AND at the same time, still want to do a quality job, always wanting to be proud of the work you’ve done. And thankfully Hudson’s plays good music! Another added bonus while working. I hate to admit it but its a little bit like torture when I’m working on location and they are playing country music.

So, to make a long story short, today’s result is … a whole bunch shamrocks for passers by and patrons to enjoy!

WOW! Window art at the UofA

WINDOW PAINTING FOR WELCOME WEEK

Week of Welcome at the University of Alberta.

It was quite the exciting vibe at the University of Alberta last week, with a lot of people moving into residence at the University of Alberta in anticipation of school starting!  I may have felt it a little more than the average person because my own daughter was starting university as well.  Nervous and excited rolled into one!

I was asked to paint “Welcome Home” at two of their residence buildings (Lister Hall and International House), along with the design that they were using this year.  For many it is home for another year but many will be in Edmonton for the first time leaving a town smaller than Lister Hall and definatly smaller than the UofA.  I hope that the window painting will make them feel better.  I was impressed with the swirls and colours they were using - like I’ve said before, who doesn’t like swirls?!
