Window Painting Canadian Finals Rodeo for The Westin

I believe this is my 4th year back to paint windows for The Westin Hotel, adding to their CFR lobby decor. They won the competition last year for Best Decorated Hotel and they’re going for it again this year! Mark C. spent the afternoon decorating the lobby while I was painting and he even let me in on a pretty cool added feature to all their CFR stuff. CFR is the Canadian Finals Rodeo and is a big deal here in Edmonton. We’ll be seeing a lot of cowboy hats and cowboy boots around the city this week!

I guess it is window painting season!  I was at the Westin hotel for CFR40 how exciting that it is the 40th anniversary of the Canadians Final Rodeo.  There were a lot of activities around town and everyone seemed to be having fun too.

First Christmas Window Painting of the 2013 Season

I was in at the Edmonton Hotel and Convention Centre to paint windows to finish off their Christmas 

decorating. They have a long line of windows visible from their entrance all the way down a hallway that leads to elevators to rooms as well as to their dining room. For this reason, the fact that so many guests  see the windows from the inside, my style of window painting is good. Good in that I try and make it as tidy and attractive to look at on the inside as it is from the outside. This is also the first time that I’d  painted words that are readable from the inside and out. I think doing them in different colours made it work out well. I’m very proud of all the windows and hope they make many of their guests smile.

It's CFR (Canadian Finals Rodeo) time again in Edmonton, where cowboys

and cowgirls from all over come to compete and show their stuff. The

Westin hotel in downtown Edmonton has had me come in for a few years

now, to paint their windows celebrating the festivities. They always ask

that it be less cartoon and more realistic.

While I was there painting, I over heard some conversations where I had

to do a double take....some of the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian

Football League were sitting a few feet away from me. I couldn't help

but listen, whether I wanted to or not! Being an Edmonton Eskimos fan I

was both excited that I was seeing some football players but they were

going to be playing AGAINST MY TEAM in a few hours! One of the people

that work at the hotel told me that most football and hockey teams stay

there when they are in the city to play. Kinda cool!
