Caricatures for Westcorp

I was asked to draw caricatures for an afternoon event at one of Westcorp’s buildings near the University of Alberta. The Events Coordinator is always thinking up interesting events to bring the residents together. On this day she had me there drawing caricatures and had an awesome spread of delicious food in their party room. It sure seems like a great place to live! Here are a couple of my favourite caricatures from the day. These ones really make me smile.

Caricatures at Investors Group Christmas Party, Edmonton

I had a really great time with a fabulous bunch of people of Investors Group for their Christmas party! They were nice enough to feed me supper along with great conversation at our table. Once back at the drawing board I drew some of these great people …

Snow Valley Staff BBQ Caricatures

I think this is my fourth year back drawing caricatures at Snow Valley’s Staff Summer BBQ! It’s their appreciation for the summer staff and a welcome back for the ski season staff that will be back at it once the snow flies. It’s great seeing familiar faces and also see new recruits to the Snow Valley team. There are a lot of people that have been there for years and years. That says something about the atmosphere there don’t you think! Here are some from the day …

Drawining Caricatures for the NICU Farewell picnic

A picnic in Edmonton's Coronation Park along with kid’s games and me doing Caricatures, for trainees (and their families) completing the Neonatal Perinatal (NICU)  medicine program.

Drawing at various locations is always tricky. Note to self: Always bring extra chairs, always bring an umbrella. Sun is not fun when shining on white paper!

Here are a couple sisters that started the caricature ball rolling!

Caricatures at Stantec for MS Fundraiser

I drew caricatures yesterday for Stantec Architecture in downtown Edmonton. They were doing an MS Fundraiser. A very windy day kept me inside and cozy in the lobby. I met a lot of nice people and was happy to be a part of this very worthy cause.

I need to apologise to this lovely lady with the curly blonde hair. She asked me to check the photo because she said she often ends up taking photos with her eyes closed. I swear it looked like her eyes were open! I swear! Either way, she’s still a beauty.

I drew a few groups of three. They were colleagues that were obviously friends as well. So great to see, people who enjoy their time at work so much! And I definitely enjoyed my time at Stantec.

Caricatures for FLUENT Edmonton

I was asked to draw caricatures at a company info session. I had such a great time drawing, listening to the positive atmosphere in the room. I really thought the vibe of the company is awesome! Here are some of my favourite drawings from the evening at Fluent Edmonton. I actually would have loved to have taken photos of each drawing - it was that kinda night!

Caricatures for Thurber Engineering Christmas Party

Some photographic treasures I found on my camera from Thurber Engineering’s Christmas party in December.

I truly love looking over photos from past parties...

Hope they mean as much to them as they do me!

My first caricature event of 2014!

Third year being back at the Snow Valley Staff Christmas Party in January. Nice to see familiar faces and new ones too.

The neatest thing of the night was a girl who I was drawing for the third time, said that her iPhoto face recognition feature on her computer actually recognized a photo of last year’s caricature as her face! How cool is that?!

Yesterday I drew husbands and wives, girlfriends and boyfriends, good friends that work together and at the end of the night I drew a couple of the staff at The Derrick Club who’d been working all night and walking past on a regular basis. Look how happy they were to get their caricature … they are the two girls doing the thumbs up.

Thank you Snow Valley, for having me back!

Caricatures for Boschman Construction's Company Christmas Party

A beautiful Christmas party at The Woodvale Community League for Boschman Contruction. Complete with beautiful decorations, buffet dinner, photographer, Coco the Clown, a visit from Santa and me doing caricatures!

I drew a lady who I’d actually drawn for at her son’s 1st birthday party a couple months ago! She was at this party.

There were some sweet kids, nice families and even a nice young lady who was working at the event who came to say hello at the end who thought it was cool that I was doing caricatures. She’d wished that she could just stand and watch instead of working.

Caricatures at the Alberta Teachers Association Christmas Party

I had a good time drawing at the Alberta Teachers Association’s Christmas Party. Here are a couple examples from the evening. My camera lens had something on it and made the first photo a bit blurry but it also gave a neat effect. I would have taken more photos if I could have managed to get the smudge off! The second photo, the gentleman was nice enough to use his camera and send me the photo.

As you can see, I had a great spot to spend the evening with a beautiful tree in the background. I’ve finally got into my own Christmas spirit with an evening at home decorating our house for Christmas.

Caricatures for INTUIT's Family Christmas Party 2013

It was nice to be back drawing caricatures for INTUIT again this year for their annual Family Christmas Party.

Boys at Christmas party hold their caricature
Oh I had such fun! Take a look at some of my favourites … These three little boys were adorable! They sad so nicely for me, polite and look how cute they are! This couple was so great to draw. I drew the man first and was laughing so much myself because I was tickled pink at how I’d captured his great smile.

After the event was over, another caricaturist and I were chatting about how there’s nothing like the feeling when you feel like you really captured somebody! That’s how I felt with theirs.

Alberta Conference Caricatures

I spent some time this past week doing forty odd caricatures for a conference. The coolest part was when I was drawing a bunch in one sitting and I clicked on yet another photo and there, to my surprise, was someone I knew!

It was fun, yet a bit nerve wracking drawing his caricature because I really wanted it to turn out well. I'm looking forward to hearing what he thought of it!

The strange thing about drawing caricatures from photos is if I happen to see one of these people out and about one day. I've studied their face, coloured their face but don't actually know them!

I popped in at The Misericordia Hospital and they showed me one more thing they did with my caricatures …

personalized locker labels! Not only will they hang in their main hallway but they their lockers. It looked pretty neat all hanging together like that. It's great that they're having so much fun with it. A fun thing would be to see one of the lady's faces when she comes back from holidays and sees her caricature on her locker ( I did it from a photo of those who were away on holidays and the rest were done there at the hospital ).

Caricatures for LASIK MD's Company Picnic

What a beautiful day at Rundle Park with the staff from LASIK MD!

I was a bit goofy because it had been a very cold morning and I didn't look at the weather forecast …

I'd remembered drawing at another event in the summer when it was overcast, windy and really cold. I'd had to pull out my winter coat from my vehicle. SO, thinking I was being really brilliant, I put on my long johns. Look at this first photo … yes, it's sunny! What was I thinking? Luckily I wasn't so hot that I was sweating or anything but it was rather crazy of me to think I needed long johns. They were thin long johns but still … long johns in September. NO, Edmonton is not that cold.

Oh, and I'd put HOT POCKETS in my shoes.

I managed to have a good time even though I was overdressed.  I think I was the only one wearing glasses too....

Caricatures at the Good Samaritan Corporate Office

Drawing caricatures at the Good Samaritan Corporate Office and I had too much fun to just post one example from the morning!
I was trying out a new drawing set up so I was a bit nervous for the first few minutes. I've been using a drawing table that always felt a bit too low and the drawing board area itself not quite big enough. I felt that I was getting too much neck pain afterwards from looking up and down a lot. I'm hoping that my new easel will be the charm! So far so good!

Caricatures for AIT Client Services

A fantastic day at the park for AIT Client Services Staff Picnic this past week. So nice to sit and draw people on a beautiful, sunny day. I hope I added to the enjoyment of the day. People enjoyed sitting down for their own caricature and many people would pop over ever once in awhile to see how everyone else's caricature was turning out. The plan was to photo copy them and hang them up in an office hallway and everyone then gets to take the original home. A great way to liven up and lighten up any work place!
